Welcome!

Portland, Or, is an incredible place! We have so much to love: beautiful mountains, incredible food, unique and amazing people…we are so lucky! The LGBTQ+ community is no different. As parents of trans children, we just cannot express how much we respect you, are thankful for you, and love you for being so open and willing to be that piece of adult mentorship we just can’t provide!

What we can provide, though, is a community where trans, nonbinary, and intersex youth can get together, with safe grown ups, and enjoy the magic of childhood while leaving the stressors of being t/n/I behind. Anxiety, worry, fear, bullying, shame, and so much more, should never be a part of a child’s experience yet it is for far too many. With our unique experience, proud grownups of t/n/l can provide this and we can’t wait!

q Social Club’s membership is limited to trans, nonbinary and intersex children between the age of 5 and 11 (K-5/6 grade) and their safe grownups. Oh, and of course membership is free and we always trust that what you say is true! We will never question anyone’s gender identity. And don’t worry, we’ll make sure we have lots of events with safe ally friends and their grownups, too.

Do you want to sign your child up? Yes, please, we would love to have you! Here are a few notes:

  • any and all information you ever give will always be private.

  • we totally understand the need for security and safety. The name of your child on registration does not have to be the same as their name given at birth. You and your child can absolutely choose to go by a name with q Social Club that is as unique as you’d like. Glitter Flower Star? Yes please. Spiderman? 100%. Annie? Love it. Jack? Perfect. We love it all.

  • q Social Club is not yet registered as a 501(c)(3). We are, though, in the process of doing so. We are forming a Board of Directors as well as a Youth Board of Directors and Youth Directors of Programming.

  • Safe Grownups are always allowed to stay during “meetings” but will also have the option to drop off. q Social Club consults with an educator to stay up to date on best practices in youth programming from both an educators standpoint as well as a youth advocate’s standpoint. Safety is always our #1 concern.

  • We accept every safe person at q Social Club. No exceptions. We will not tolerate any bullying, harassment or mistreatment of anyone based on who they are: religion, gender, sexuality, race, culture, living situation, or anything like that at all.

  • If there is a need for an interpreter at any “meeting” (I promise we’ll get a better word than that!) we will arrange for that to happen. Please give us at least 5 full days notice. We are trying our hardest to provide printed material in both English and Spanish - at times the translating is on me so I’m so sorry if it’s messy! We will also provide captions on videos when available.

  • q Social Club will always cost exactly $0 for members. We will operate on donations and fundraisers so cost is never a barrier. But you can help in other ways! We would love it if you would help us spread the word on social media or in your own work, family, and social circles. If you know anyone who you think would be interested in sponsoring us, we are always open to a cup of coffee or a glass of wine (on us!) to meet and answer any questions. If we ever post about giving opportunities or fundraisers, it would be incredible to spread the word! THANK YOU!
